Boston Cream Pie



  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1-1/2 cups water


  • 1 large egg
  • 1 egg white
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1-1/2 Tbsp cornstartch
  • 1-1/4 cups milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract


  1. 1 cup 10x sugar
  2. 3 Tbsp cocoa powder
  3. 2 Tbsp hot water



  1. Prepare 2 8-inch round cake pans with vegetable spray.
  2. In large bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs and water. Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake and cool according to box instructions.

Prepare custard:

  1. While cake is baking, in a small bowl, whisk together egg and egg white.
  2. In a pot over medium heat, combine sugar and cornstarch. Stir in milk and simmer, stirring constantly. Whisk 1 Tbsp of hot mixture into the egg mixture. Return to hot pan, stir in vanilla. Place in a bowl and chill


  1. In a small bowl, combine 10x sugar, cocoa and hot water. Mix well.
  2. Place a 1-cake layer on a serving plate, spread with custard. Top with second layer
  3. Spread with frosting
