POPCORN BALLS

INGREDIENTS

1 cup sugar

1/3 cup karo syrup

1/3 cup water

¼ cup butter

¾ tsp salt

¾ tsp vanilla

Food coloring

3 quarts popcorn, popped

Extra softened butter
NOTE:  Need an oven thermometer

NOTE:  IF you want to do more than one color popcorn ball you will either have to separate the syrup mix when cooking OR make additional batches.

DIRECTIONS

Pop the popcorn and place in a large bowl

In medium sauce pot over medium heat, combine sugar, karo syrup, water, butter, and salt until all is dissolved.  Cook until 270o,  Place cold water into a small cup and then place some butter on your fingers and take a spoon full of the syrup that is cooking on the stove. Using your fingers grab some of the syrup and see if it forms a ball and place it in the water.  If you get a ball, the syrup is ready to use.

Add food coloring and stir well

Pour the colored syrup over the popcorn and stir well

Cover your hands (helps with the heat of the syrup) with butter and mold your popcorn balls.

The amount of popcorn balls you get depends on the size you make them.  Usually make about the size of a baseball.
